A very, easy quick dish made from baking fish poured with a stir-fried mixture, ‘Ikan cili garam’ is a decadent dish perfect for a filling and flavourful meal. Ikan cili garam is simply fried fish served with a simple chilli paste. ‘Ikan’ means fish while ‘cili garam’ literally refers to chilli salt. This is about the homemade chilli paste which uses very simple ingredients namely chillies, shrimp paste, shallots and garlic. It is a Nyonya-style fried fish with chilli paste which is very popular in Malaysia. Instead of frying, baking the fish makes the dish healthier.

  • 3/4 tablespoon Salt
  • 3 tablespoon Oil
  • 1 Nos fish
  • 8 Nos garlic cloves
  • 5 gram dried shrimp paste
  • 8 Nos shallots
  • 8 Nos fresh chilli peppers
  • 1 Nos calamansi

step 1

  • STEP 1.Sprinkle some salt over the fish then pour some oil and place the fish in the pre heated oven for 40 minutes. Grind garlic, shrimp paste, shallots and chillies. Add oil in a pan and heat it. Then add the ground mixture and saute. Add salt.

  • STEP 1.Put out the baked fish in a plate and pour the fried mixture to it. Serve with wedges of lime.
