Nigerian Pepper Sauce popularly known as Ata dindin, is a hearty stew that warms you from your head to your toes and made with bell peppers, Tomatoes, Onion, ginger, habaneros, chili flakes, garlic, and ginger. It’s fiery red, bold, and spicy. Ata dindin is a restaurant classic that is possibly one of the most famous stews in local Nigerian restaurants. Despite many ingredients, this stew is easy to put together. It smells heavenly and tastes even better.

Ingredients for Ata Dindin (Nigerian Pepper Sauce) Recipe

  • 4 Nos bell peppers
  • 2 Nos scotch bonnets
  • 1 Nos onion
  • 1 Nos bowl onion
  • 3 Nos tomatoes
  • 4 Nos garlic cloves
  • 1 inch Ginger
  • 2 tablespoon locust beans
  • 2 tablespoon Crayfish
  • 1/2 cup palm oil
  • 2 teaspoon bullion powder
  • 1/2 tablespoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 cup beef stock
  • As required Meat
  • 5 Nos boiled eggs

step 1

  • STEP 1.Grind bell peppers, onion, scotch bonnets, ginger, garlic cloves and make a paste. Add palm oil in a pot. Add chopped onions and saute it for 7-8 minutes. Then add ground paste and cook it for 10 minutes with the lid on. Add salt, bouillon powder, crayfish, red chilli flakes, thyme and locust beans.

  • STEP 1.Mix all the ingredients well. Add beef stock, meat and stir well. Cover and cook for 5 minutes. Lastly add eggs and cook it at a low flame for another 2 minutes. Serve with white rice, boiled yam and boiled potatoes.
