Directions: Any Flavor Taffy Recipe

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.In a large saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, water, and salt. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sugar has dissolved.
  • STEP 2.Continue cooking the mixture, without stirring, until it reaches the soft-ball stage (around 240°F/115°C on a candy thermometer).
  • STEP 3.Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the desired flavor extract and food coloring. Be careful as the mixture will be very hot.
  • STEP 4.Pour the hot taffy mixture onto a greased baking sheet or marble slab. Allow it to cool slightly until it is safe to handle.
  • STEP 5.Using buttered hands or gloves, pull and stretch the taffy until it becomes lighter in color and firmer in texture. This will take about 10-15 minutes.
  • STEP 6.Once the taffy is firm, pull it into long ropes and cut it into bite-sized pieces using greased scissors or a knife.
  • STEP 7.Wrap each piece of taffy in wax paper or cellophane wrappers to prevent sticking. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two weeks.

Cooking Tips

  • Be careful when working with hot sugar syrup as it can cause burns. Use caution and protective gloves.
  • If the taffy becomes too hard to pull, warm it slightly in the microwave or oven to soften it before continuing.
  • Experiment with different flavors and colors to create a variety of taffy candies.

Storage and Serving

  • Store the taffy in an airtight container at room temperature. Avoid exposing it to moisture or extreme temperatures.
  • Serve the taffy as a sweet treat at parties, as a homemade gift, or enjoy it as a nostalgic candy anytime.
