  • 1 Onion, Finely Chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard Seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
  • as required A Few Curry Leaves

  • 1/2 cup Grated Coconut
  • 1 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Red Chili Powder
  • As required Salt To Taste

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Pressure cook the toor dal until soft and mushy.
  • STEP 2.In a pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and curry leaves.
  • STEP 3.Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  • STEP 4.Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute.
  • STEP 5.Add the coconut masala paste, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook for a few minutes.
  • STEP 6.Add the cooked dal and water to adjust the consistency. Simmer for 10-15 minutes.
  • STEP 7.Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or roti.

Cooking Tips

  • Soaking the toor dal for 30 minutes before cooking can help reduce the cooking time.
  • You can adjust the spiciness by adding more or less red chili powder.
  • For a creamier texture, you can add a tablespoon of ghee (clarified butter) at the end.
