When a job is posted on the internet, it often gets a few hundred to thousand responses in just a few minutes if it directly comes from the CEO of the company. However, that is not the case with Zomato this time. Deepinder Goyal has a unique offer as he is looking for a ‘Chief Of Staff’ for himself.
The post read, “I am looking for a Chief of Staff for myself, Someone who
- Is hungry, has a lot of common sense, empathy, and not a lot of experience (and therefore, no conditioning/ baggage)
- Is down to earth, and has zero entitlement
- Wants to do the right thing, even if it comes at the cost of displeasing others
- Has grade-A communication skills
- …and most importantly, has a learning mindset”
The person would be responsible for building the future of Zomato and its other properties like Blinkit, District, Hyperpure, and Feeding India.

When you read the job description, it almost seems like CEO Deepinder Goyal is talking about you (in fact, to you). One would think that the job would pay handsomely, and this is where it gets tricky.
Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal's Unique Job Post Requires Candidate To Contribute Rs 20 Lakh
The trick is that there is no salary for this role, at least for the first year. “You will have to, in fact, pay Rs 20 lakh for this opportunity, and 100% of this ‘fee’ will be paid in the form of a donation directly to Feeding India (if you are offered the role, and you accept it)”
Not just that, Zomato will contribute Rs 50 lakh (which is equivalent to the salary of a person at Chief of Staff designation) to a charity of your choice. The post further read, “We believe that people who apply for this role should do it for the learning opportunity it presents, rather than for a fancy well well-paying job which will make you look cool in front of yourself or the people you want to impress.”
The post also mentioned that a person will learn 10 times more than a 2-year degree from a top management school. You might think who would apply but the job posting has reportedly received applications from more than 10,000 people.

Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal's Unique Job Post Stirs Up Internet
This job post did not settle well with many people. Some pointed out on the internet that via these posts only Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal does marketing of products without spending a penny.
A person wrote, “Paying ₹20 lakhs for a ‘Chief of Staff’ role? This is pure exploitation and legally questionable.”
Another user on X wrote, “Employing people without pay under the guise of providing learning and exposure is a concerning practice. It often exploits individuals, especially young professionals, by undervaluing their work and contributions.”
Saurabh Joshi commented, “The person who has 20 lac why will he apply for a job!!”
