The product was first made available in Italy in 1964 and became a favourite everywhere. The company's founder's son produced the first-ever jar of Nutella, a novel hazelnut cream. Nutella debuted in Australia in 1978, opening its first plant outside of Europe in Sydney. To partake in the largest continental breakfast ever, approximately 28,000 Nutella fans gathered in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, in 2005. The popular hazelnut-cocoa spread celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2014 by conducting events in ten countries worldwide. In 2017, the first Nutella Cafe opened on Chicago's Magnificent Mile.
