Hello foodies! It’s time to reveal yet another amazing food record. The record that’s been set this time round involves a dish from the Tex-Mex cuisine. Any guesses on what this dish could be? It’s a burrito! The record that’s been set of late has been set by professional competitive eater Leah Shutkever, hailing from United Kingdom. You must know Leah from the many food records she has set in the past, including being the fastest person to eat the maximum number of chicken nuggets in one minute. (Read here).
Leah who was on the set of Lo Show dei Record in Milan, Italy recently, broke her own Guinness record to become the fastest person to eat a burrito in 32.35 seconds. The folks at the Guinness Book of World Records shared a video of her eating the Burrito within record time to their Instagram handle. In the video Leah can be seen in a fancy dress, devouring the Burrito bite by bite. Leah is seen swallowing hard and looking a tad uncomfortable before she swallows the last bit of the Burrito down her throat. Shortly after this, Leah opens her mouth to prove that she has eaten all of the food. When Leah is awarded the title, she gleefully says, “This is so exciting.”
The Guinness Book of World Records' social media handle mentions in a comment on their video that Leah has attained this feat by breaking her previous record. Taking a jibe at herself, in a light hearted fashion, Leah replied to the comment saying, “Her, again?” Leah’s attempt has drawn a mixed response from social media users. While some of them have congratulated Leah for her efforts, others have questioned if gulping down food at a rapid rate is okay for the body. Leah’s personal Instagram page is full of content that will leave you alarmed. In one of her latest posts, the competitive eater can be seen stuffing a whole banana down her throat and swallowing it as she thrust it in. Leah has captioned this post, “ain’t nothing.” Worried fans and followers have expressed concern for her health in the comment section. One social media user has asked Leah if she’s ever had a stomach ache because of not chewing her food properly.
Always remember that the people who set these Guinness World Records are professionals. Do not try this at home. The importance of chewing a meal before eating is immense. According to science, chewing food helps the stomach to process your food by breaking larger particles into smaller fragments. Chewing also increases saliva production which helps in swallowing food without aggravating the oesophagus. A meal chewed well is a meal consumed well. Stay tuned for the next bizzare food record.
