That’s why it is often said that whenever you notice the problem of leaking gas, do not ignore it. Such situations can lead to significant accidents. Often, we are not aware of gas leaks, due to which the gas also gets over quickly. Therefore, check the cylinder from time to time. If you feel there is some problem, do not panic, but take care of the things mentioned below.

Five safety measures

  • Some things like lighter, matchboxes, oil etc., should not be kept around the gas stove or cylinder as they could lead to a fire.
  • The gas cylinder should be switched off after cooking. Apart from this, keep the gas stove off as well. Many people turn off the gas after cooking but forget to turn off the regulator.
  • If you smell the gas leaking, do not panic; keep the doors and windows of the house open. Do not turn on the electric fan or exhaust fan during this time, as the gas smell will spread throughout the room, causing difficulty breathing.
  • Suppose you have inhaled the gas while breathing; go out to get some fresh air. If your eyes itch, wash them immediately with cold water. At the same time, when the gas leaks, keep a cloth on your mouth so that there is no problem in breathing.
  • If things like heaters and incense sticks are burning in the house, extinguish them immediately. Get it inspected by a technician as soon as possible.

Keep checking the regulator and pipe

  • The gas leakage doesn't always need to be from the cylinder, and sometimes it can also be due to the regulator and pipes.
  • Apart from getting the cylinder and regulator checked from time to time, get the gas stove checked every two years.
  • At the same time, change the rubber tube every five years. However, many types of pipes are available nowadays. So, try to use certified rubber tubes only.
  • At the same time, the regulator should also be certified, as it can be used for a long time. There is a possibility of the local regulator getting damaged soon, due to which gas may also leak.

What if the cylinder catches fire?

Whenever there is a fire in the cylinder due to a gas leak, do not panic, but immediately soak a sheet and thick towel in water and wrap it with the cylinder. Apart from this, you can also use a fire extinguisher.

If there is ever a gas leak situation in your house, follow the tips given above.
