Chicken dishes, that too Indian, have a special fanbase and we can’t deny this. From scrumptious butter chicken to chicken kadhai, from the tangy chicken tikka to royal chicken changezi, there are so many gems that have stolen our hearts. Thanks to the preparation method and flavourful spices added. 

Though we don’t need a special time to relish chicken, we have brought an amazing and lip-smacking chicken dish that you can make at home tonight for dinner. This vibrant green chicken curry doesn’t have any fancy ingredients but those easily available in every other kitchen. We are talking about the ‘Hariyali Chicken’. This scrumptious chicken curry is made of spinach, coriander leaves and flavourful and aromatic Indian spices. This dish goes well with chapati, rice, pulao, paratha or even tandoori roti and naan.

Ingredients 

  • 1 kg chicken 
  • 3 tbsp ghee 
  • 4 garlic cloves 
  • 2 onions (finely chopped) 
  • 1 tomato (chopped) 
  • ½ cup curd 
  • 1 tsp kasuri methi 
  • 3 tsp fresh cream 
  • Salt to taste 

For Masala 

  • 1 cup spinach leaves 
  • Handful of coriander leaves 
  • Handful of mint leaves 
  • 3 to 4 green chilies 
  • 7 to 8 peppercorns 
  • ½ tsp garam masala 
  • 5 garlic cloves 
  • ½ inch ginger 
  • 7 cashews 
  • ½ cup fried onions 
  • ½ cup chopped tomatoes 

Method 

  • Start by cutting the chicken pieces into medium size. 
  • Take a grinder and add the ingredients for making the masala. Add water as required. 
  • Take a bowl and add spinach leaves to it. Add hot over and cover it for 3 to 4 minutes. 
  • When done, drain out the water and place the spinach under cold water. Then, put them into ice water and let it stay for 4 to 5 minutes. Thereafter, grind the spinach leaves and keep them aside.  
  • Then, boil chicken pieces and keep them aside. Marinate the chicken pieces with salt and fry them. 
  • Heat a pan and add ghee. Add chopped garlic and sauté well. Add onions and sauté them until they attain a golden brown colour. 
  • Add kasuri methi and chopped tomatoes. Mix and let it cook. Add the ground masalas and let it cook until the oil starts to separate. Add curd and cook again for a few minutes. 
  • Then, add pureed spinach and cook for two more minutes. Then, add the fried chicken pieces. Little by little add the chicken stock and let the curry cook for a few more minutes.  
  • Add salt and fresh cream. Garnish and serve!
