Weight Loss With Oats; Try This Uttapam Recipe

Having a breakfast full of nutrients and minerals is essential to kickstart the day. There is a common myth among people that skipping breakfast is beneficial for those trying to lose weight, but this is a big NO. Skipping breakfast can lead to weakness and dehydration whereas having a breakfast that is rich in protein, minerals and vitamins can do wonders for the body. There is no dearth of breakfast dishes in India. While some start their day with butter loaded parathas, some have crispy dosa with sambar and idli. And if you ask me, I just can’t say no to a South Indian meal for breakfast. Among the South Indian breakfast staples across India is uttapam. Did you know that uttapam can also lead to weight loss? Made with oats, semolina, veggies and spices, this humble breakfast dish is weight-loss friendly and gives you a break from eating that boring food again and again. 

Here is the recipe of oats uttapam for breakfast! 

Ingredients 

  • 1 cups oats 
  • ½ cup sooji 
  • 1 cup curd 
  • 1 tsp jeera 
  • ¼ tsp red chili powder 
  • Pinch of hing 
  • Pinch of edible soda 
  • 2 tsp olive oil 
  • 1 onion (chopped) 
  • 1 tomato (chopped) 
  • 1 capsicum (chopped) 
  • 3 to 4 green chilies (chopped) 
  • Handful of coriander leaves (chopped) 
  • Salt to taste 
  • Water as required 

Method 

  • In a blender, add oats and sooji. Also, add hing and grind everything together. 
  • Add the mixture into a bowl and add curd. Add jeera, red chili powder, soda and water.  
  • Make a thick batter and let the mixture stay for 7 to 10 minutes. 
  • Now, add chopped vegetables into the mixture. Add salt and mix it. 
  • Heat a non-stick pan and add oil. Spread the batter and let it cook. 
  • Cook evenly from both sides and garnish with coriander leaves. 
  • Serve with coconut chutney or tomato chutney and enjoy!
