It seems like there is not a single notable movie or web series off-late, that does not include Pankaj Tripathi in the cast list. From Ludo, Gunjan Saxena to Mirzapur, Pankaj Tripathi has enthralled his fans in various roles and the latest to add to the list in Mimi. The film that revolves around the issue of surrogacy also stars Kriti Sanon in the lead. To promote the same, he appeared on the show ‘Menu Please’ with digital creator Srishti Dixit on Netflix’s YouTube channel. In the show, he dons the chef hat to make some Khichdi. That’s right. India’s favourite one-pot meal continues to hold a special place in the star’s heart even till today. He also revealed on the show that there was a point in his life where he ate khichdi daily for a whole year!

“First off you have to put on the heat for the stove, else it would become Birbal Ki Khichdi”, he starts off the video in his signature toungue-in-cheek manner. He then shows the soaked moong dal and rice to the camera, the two chief ingredients of khichdi. For the video, he also got Lakadong turmeric and a special garam masala from his home that his wife made a night before.

As he heats ghee and dried red chillies, Tripathi says “cooking is a survival skill. Everyone, regardless of gender, should know how to cook”, and we cannot agree more.

After throwing in a bay leaf, he says his khichdi is inspired a little bit from the Bengali-style khichdi and starts grating some ginger to add to the cooker. “The dried red chillies do not give so much sizzle as compared to green chillies”, he tells his co-anchor. But all the sizzle is compensated for when the ginger is added to the mix.

Incidentally, Pankaj Tripathi was also a professional cook prior to being an actor. In the show he revealed he doesn’t miss much of those days, because his heart was always set in acting. Now he occasionally like to cook for family and friends.

Later, he proceeds to add moong dal to the cooker followed by the garam masala made by wife and some salt. “Cooking is much like acting, while following the recipe, you have to be very attentive too”, he says in the video.
