India is home to several religions and faiths. With so many lords and deities that are worshipped in the country, there’s one festival to celebrate each of them. Spirituality tends to explore the universe and its creations and Hindu religious beliefs adorn Lord Vishwakarma as the creator of this universe. That’s the significance of the Vishwakarma Puja that is conducted in Hindu households each year.

Legend has it that Lord Vishwakarma laid down the foundation for the city of Dwarka to be ruled by Lord Krishna. His expertise in mechanics and engineering as well as the creation of a powerful weapon called Vajra has made him an idol for all those working in such industries. The artisans, mechanics, factory workers and those professions involving the use of some tools or weapons hail down to the lord on Vishwakarma Puja. They pray to the Almighty for a prosperous career and happiness.

While the Puja involves several offerings like vermellion, sweets are an important part of any puja. Here are  a few prasads you can prepare for the Vishwakarma Puja to please the lord.

1.  Motichoor Ladoo

For the uninitiated, ladoos are round-shaped sweet balls made of boondi, gram flour and sugar. The vibrant orange colour is not only pleasing to the eye but tempting for the taste buds too.

2.  Petha

Just like Agra ka petha is really famous, you can make this chunky dessert at home too. While the white pumpkin forms the core ingredient, the use of saffron adds to the aroma of the square-shaped dessert.

3. Soan Papdi

The flaky cubes of Soan Papdi are the best balance between sweet and crunchy flavours. Made with besan and maida, the cardamom seeds give it a strong flavour.

4. Kesari Peda

Bite-sized flattened balls of khoya and mawa are topped with sliced almonds to form the kesari peda. Saffron is added to the batter of khoya which makes it an aromatic dessert.
