Viral: Foodie Turns ASMR Desi With Maggi, Golgappe & More

A few years back, you could have asked anybody what ASMR stands for and gotten blank stares in return. But today, autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR) is known worldwide as that sensation people feel while watching and hearing dedicated people from around the world eating delicious dishes and enjoying themselves thoroughly in Mukbang videos. Though a Korean concept, Mukbang is an eating show whose format has grown immensely in popularity because of their drool-worthy content. 

In India, Mukbang videos are now being created by many food content creators on YouTube to induce that ASMR vibe in desi hearts. Well, most Indians love food anyways, so watching these creators eat huge thalis full of delicious desi meals is quite the joy to behold. Leading the charge here is Jyoti Dhoundiyal, who runs the food channel Foodie JD on YouTube. In a recent video she posted, she can be seen indulging in the best of Indian dishes. Check it out:

Indian Maggi masala with extra spices and toppings, all thanks to the addition of lots of red chillies. On the side is a huge dish of dal-chawal, that ultimate combination of rice and lentils that every Indian loves. Add to that sides of Gobhi Pakodas, Pyaz Pakodas and Aloo Pakodas, and you have a full meal right there. What’s more, she even has plump and juicy red chillies and onions on the side, with fried red chillies on top of the rice too. Next up are Golgappas which are visibly stuffed with ragda or cooked dried peas and topped with a whole green chilli too. You can easily spot the savoury water for the Golgappas on the side as well. Barely visible and yet so delicious, are some papdis on the side to sweeten the meal a bit.  

She starts with the Maggi masala, and the spiciness of the dish makes her visibly sweat up a bit. And while most people would find this daunting enough, this Indian foodie proves that she can hold her spice better than most by biting into green chillies in the middle of her indulgence. She next munches on the cauliflower fritters while also biting into the extra papdis for that added crunchy sound effect. When it comes to the Golgappas, she doesn’t shy away from eating the entire puffed puris along with whole chillies.  

Next up, she mixes the rice with the lentils properly like every Indian does and takes large morsels while also muching on whole red chillies and the fritters. Once again, she is visibly sweating from the heat of the chillies, but presses on until the whole plate of food is finished. Clearly, Dhoundiyal is a pro at eating full desi meals like a true foodie and knows the value of polishing off her plate like Indian mothers always insist we do.
