Folklore of Sandwich
According to folklore, the sandwich we love and know today was invented in 1762 in England. The majority of food historians believe that John Montagu, a British statesman, also known as "the 4th Earl of Sandwich," invented the sandwich. Montagu had a reputation for being a compulsive gambler who would spend a lot of time at the card table. During one of his long gambling sessions , he asked the kitchen for something he could eat with his hands without getting up from his seat. He was presented a sandwich, which consisted of two bread slices with meat in the centre.
