This might be the first time that a company had to shut itself down due to excessive demand for their product!
In an unprecedented turn of events, Mitchell Brewing Co.. a UK-based beer company renowned for its unconventional naming practices, faces a monumental challenge as 'Osama Bin Lager,’ their newest product, sweeps the nation.
‘Osama Bin Lager’ was named after the notorious terrorist Osama Bin Laden, who was the leader of Al-Qaeda and was known for being the mastermind behind the 9/11 attacks. This beer that features a light, citrus-infused flavour has been acclaimed as the "most popular production” of the brewery. In a whirlwind of unexpected demand, the brewery had to temporarily shut down to cope with the overwhelming demand for the product.
As per reports, this is not the first time the brewery named their beers after controversial figures. Mitchell Brewing Co., a husband-and-wife-owned business situated in Billinghay, Lincolnshire, in the UK, is always in the news for naming their beers after world leaders opposed to the West. Previously, they launched their premium beer flavours named Kim Jong Ale, after the North Korean Dictator Kim Jong Un and Putin Porter, after Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia.
Owners Luke and Catherine Mitchell, in an interview with BBC, speak about their new approach to the products and how the names give a new meaning to their beers. Co-owner Luke Mitchell remarked that the names are all tongue-in-cheek, which gives a nicer outlook on some dreadful dictators. After releasing their popular beverages named after such disputed icons, they've witnessed a surge in public interest and curiosity.
Reportedly, Luke Mitchell added, "Everyone laughs when they see the names on the bar" and "As far as I'm aware, no one's been offended, but I'm sure there is someone out there.”

Contrary to public perception, the decision to name a beer after Osama Bin Laden wasn't a mere publicity stunt. In fact, the idea was formulated as a commendable gesture for the betterment of society. Through the sales of every barrel of ‘Osama Bin Lager,’ Mitchell Brew Co. donates 10 euros to a charity supporting the victims of the 9/11 attack.
This golden initiative met with a flood of sales after the beer went viral on social media platforms. Reports state that Mr Mitchell said in the interview, "We've woken up the last couple of mornings with thousands and thousands and thousands of notifications.” "It's been crazy. The phone just hasn't stopped for the last 48 hours," added Mrs Mitchell.
With the storm of notifications and a crowd of curious beer enthusiasts waiting outside the door, it is evident that the short-staffed company is overwhelmed. The overwhelming demand for the beer led the brewery to close its website and disconnect its phones as people rushed to make purchases and inquire about availability.
The closure is, however, temporary, and the company looks forward to opening its doors once again soon and taking orders through the website.
