COVID-19 has entirely collapsed the healthcare system around the world and especially in India. Till a few days back we were witnessing one of the worst times in the last few decades and we did not have a clear roadmap about how to deal with this deadly pandemic. Now, we are anticipating the third wave of coronavirus. The situation is just horrible and all of us had not felt as helpless as we are feeling now.

However, we need to keep fighting against the odds and try to keep ourselves and the loved ones safe. To do that, you just need to seriously follow the government’s COVID-19 guidelines. Apart from that, one of the medicinal kitchen ingredients can help you win the war against the novel coronavirus. It is the wonder spice, turmeric.

Turmeric has been investigated during various studies including the one published in the Indian Journal of clinical Biochemistry, for its potential therapeutic properties. Scientists have found that the natural compound namely curcumin, present in turmeric exhibits wide range of healing properties including anti-proliferative, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-microbial, neuroprotective and cardio protective properties. This yellow pigment exerts strong antiviral activities against various types of viruses including HPV, Zikavirus, Adenovirus, Influenza virus, HSV2 and many more.

As per another research published in the Journal of General Virology, curcumin effectively works against transmissible gastroenteritis virus (TGEV) which is an alpha-group coronavirus. The kitchen ingredient works by inhibiting the replication of the virus.

In case of COVID-19, patients suffer from inflammation in different body parts especially lungs due to a fight between their immune cells and the novel coronavirus. If continued, this inflammation can make it difficult for you to breathe. In this situation, you can consume turmeric water twice a day. Make sure the water is at least lukewarm. Add a pinch of turmeric to it and stir well. Have it in the morning and before sleeping for best results. If you are suffering from sore throat too, you can add a few drops of lemon juice and a tablespoon of honey to it. This concoction will provide relief gradually and inflammation will reduce too.
