We spoke with Deepti Khatuja, Clinical Nutritionist, Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurugram to understand the nutritional benefits of moringa. According to her, “Moringa, which is often called drumstick plant, is often called a lesser-known superfood. It is mostly used for south Indian dishes like sambar. But recently, with the surge in Covid-19, people are increasingly realizing the important role it plays in keeping our immune system strong.”
Explaining the benefits of moringa, Deepti said, “It is extremely fibrous which means it can help control cholesterol and blood sugar levels. In addition, it is also rich in vitamins A and B. The beta carotene present in moringa can boost immunity. Moreover, the presence of minerals such as calcium and potassium can also benefit overall health.”
In his post, chef Kunal also mentions that the “Moringa plant is overflowing with vitamins A, B, C, D, E and minerals including potassium, calcium, iron, selenium, and magnesium. Moringa leaves are rich in essential amino acids which are not commonly found in plants, and it is extremely rich in proteins.
