With two years into a pandemic, life has not been easy for anyone. From businesses to industries, everything has been badly hit during this period. Most outdoor events, particularly sports events have been cancelled in the past. Luckily, the second wave has seen a dip in the number of cases worldwide and this marks the onset of the most awaited sports event of the year, Olympics.
Being hosted by Tokyo this year, the Olympics are a really big deal for each of the 205 countries participating in it. However, there is one concern that has been raised every now and then. It pertains to the food available at the Athletes village for the athletes. Indian athletes like Achanta Sharath Kamal have expressed disappointment at the lack of Indian food being served to them after a long match. According to Times of India, Sushil Kumar survived on ready-to-eat food during his stint at the Beijing Olympics.
Good news has finally arrived that Indian food is being served to the athletes at this year’s Olympic Games in Tokyo. Based on the report by TOI, the menu set for the sportsmen includes everything from Chole Bhature, Butter chicken, Shahi paneer, Biryani, Steamed spinach, Daal (lentils) and Assorted breads (plain and butter naan). This has really lifted up the spirits of the athletes from India who seem to be pleased with the arrangements made for them.
At the dining hall, all the food is laid down and marked with their nutritional values so that the athletes can make an informed choice as per their dietary needs. Dr. Prem Verma, the deputy chef-de-mission of India remarked, "There are so many varieties of food to relish. The athletes look happy” as per his statement to the TOI.
With such a great change on the international level, the athletes are surely going to have a high morale and not feel homesick with their staple food available in foreign land.
