For the unversed, tahri uses its main ingredient, potatoes, while making and of course mixing it with spices and other kitchen ingredients while on the other hand, a veg pulao has a mix of many colourful and flavorful veggies besides just potatoes. Tahri is popular and mainly cooked by the people belonging to the northern states of our country. Besides the wholesome goodness and taste of tahri, one of the primary reasons people love cooking tahri at home is that it’s prepared with minimal ingredients, out of which most of them include Indian spices that are readily available in every Indian household.

Ingredients- ( serving for 4)

  1. 1 big cup of rice
  2. 2 cup water
  3. 2 potatoes
  4. 4-5 Green chillies
  5. Salt as per taste
  6. Red chilli powder
  7. Half tablespoon cumin seeds
  8. 2 tablespoon ghee
  9. Half tablespoon turmeric powder
  10. Coriander leaves ( for garnishing)
  11. Bay leaves

Method for preparation-

  1. Take a pressure cooker and add dollops of ghee, cumin seeds, bay leaves, cumin seeds and sliced potatoes.
  2. Fry all the ingredients together for some time on a low-medium flame.
  3. Then add two cups of water, pour the entire rice bowl, and allow it to mix well with other ingredients.
  4. Cook the rice until you hear two whistles.
  5. Tada, Tahri is ready! Serve warm and garnish it with coriander leaves.
