Nowadays, it seems everyone is in a hunt for finding something healthy and clean, while failing to look for things that are a lot closer to their home. Indian herbs and spices have always been considered as the panacea of mild ailments but is never given the due they deserve. Curry leaves are one of the precious Indian herbs that definitely deserve more hype. Recently nutritionist Pooja Makhija took to her Instagram Reels and talked about the same and called it "yet another Indian diet-gem that has not been given the superfood badge".
Murraya koenigii or more commonly known as curry leaves has been part of the Indian culture since time immemorial. Besides being a prized possession in the kitchen, it is also bestowed with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties that are good for our overall health. Pooja also listed several benefits that are offered by these tender green leaves which includes lowering the cholesterol, improving vision, fighting anaemia, enhancing heart function, and improving dental health.
Further she advised on how one can incorporate curry leaves in their regular diet by suggesting two methods.
• You can add 8-10 fresh leaves in your glass of vegetable juice daily. This regimen is effective because they are rich in vitamin C,E and antioxidants, these properties ensure that our body is functioning properly. Moreover, Pooja also adds that they work as a ‘‘antiseptic for acne’’, so if you are troubled with your skin woes, may be this superfood could be of help.
• She further suggested taking two bowls of curry leaves and then drying them in the sun to make fine powder, which later can be stored in a ‘tight jar in cool place’. According to her ‘’using ¼ to ½ teaspoon can help with morning sickness and nausea during pregnancy’’.
