What comes to your mind when you think of an Indian dish which is also damn healthy. Yes, you thought it right, it is dal palak. One of the most loved dal, dal palak is an Indian dish made up of lentils, spinach, spices and herbs. This dal is not just delicious but healthy as well. This is a food that brings a sense of comfort and one can have it with rice, roti and bhakri.

This dal is rich in protein and no wonder we all are its fans. There are many people who chose dal palak over any other dish and we know why. And for those people, we have something. Chef Ranveer Brar has shared the recipe of the tastiest dal palak and we just cannot get over it. We have shared the recipe for you as we want you to stay happy!! So, without any delay, follow the steps below and make this tastiest dal for lunch.  

Preparation time- 10 minutes

Cooking time- 25 to 30 minutes

Serving- 2

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp ghee
  • 1 cup washed tovar dal (slightly soaked)
  • 1 cup washed masoor dal (slightly soaked)
  • 1 cup washed yellow moong dal (slightly soaked)
  • 1 tsp degi red chilli powder
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • Pinch of asafoetida
  • salt to taste
  • 8 cups of cooking

For first tadka

  • 1 ½ tbsp ghee
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • Pinch of asafoetida
  • 3 garlic cloves (chopped)
  • 1 large onion (chopped)
  • 2 green chilli (chopped)
  • 1 tsp degi red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • Pinch of asafoetida
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp ghee
  • ½ cup fresh tomato puree
  • 2 cups fresh spinach leaves (chopped)
  • ½ cup water
  • Salt to taste

For second tadka

  • 1 tbsp oil,
  • ½ tsp cumin seeds,
  • 2 dry red chillies (cut into half)
  • Pinch of asafoetida
  • ½ tsp degi red chilli powder

For Garnish

  • Coriander sprig
  • Lemon wedge

Method

  • Take a pan and add ghee, soaked tovar dal, masoor dal, and yellow moong dal. Mix well.
  • Add degi red chilli powder, turmeric powder and asafoetida. Mix it well on medium flame.
  • Now, add salt to taste and water. 
  • Cover it with the lid and cook until it's done.
  • Once the dal is cooked, pour the prepared tadka and mix it well.
  • In the same pan, add water and salt while bringing it to a boil.
  • Transfer it into the sauce pot and mix it well.
  • Meanwhile, 
  • In a serving bowl, add prepared dal and pour the second tadka on top of it.
  • Garnish it with a coriander sprig and serve hot.
