Here's Why This South Indian Cafe In Mumbai Is Going Viral

If your timeline has been full of the viral banana leaf idli from Mumbai, you're probably looking for the spot that serves it. The low-key joint known as Avantika Chennai Cafe serves up some unique delicacies which put a spin on classic South Indian dishes

This eatery serves the viral banana leaf spot idli, a delicious variation that has been making waves. Unlike the traditional steamed version, these idlis are fried in a pan. The preparation involves placing two banana leaves on the pan, coating them with ghee, and spreading a generous layer of veggie masala.

Another layer of masala is sprinkled over the first. Finally, a layer of idli batter mixed with kalonji is added on top. The idlis are pan-fried with additional ghee until they’re perfectly cooked. Once ready, they're served with three different chutneys and sambar. This dish truly lives up to its hype, offering a flavorful twist on a beloved South Indian classic.

Avantika Chennai Cafe also offers dishes like Pizza Dosa, Mickey Mouse Dosa, Heart-Shaped Dosa, Burger Idli, Mini Podi Idli, and Schezwan Uttapam. Their thatte idli, for instance, is cut with a pizza cutter and sprinkled with generous doses of pav bhaji masala.

One of their other standout delicacies is the burger idli which uses flat-top idli which are slightly bigger in size. They are made with a veggie masala filling, coconut chutney and some cheese.
