Remember going out for dinner in the 90s? The classic high-ceiling restaurant with vintage chandeliers, basic yet comfortable seating with a simple menu. One look at the restaurant industry today and you’ll see the stark contrast and how it has been transformed completely over the years. Not only has the menu changed drastically, with many global cuisines taking over the food space in Indian restaurants, but the vibe and ambience have taken the centre stage across restaurants in India. Especially after the pandemic, when dining out has gone back to being an occasional affair, people wish to have a memorable experience in itself. And so, restaurants and chefs are going out of their way to make their establishments noteworthy and unique.

Several interesting and creative ideas, including theme cafés and experiential ambience have been curated to attract diners. For instance, dining while suspended in the sky became quite a thing recently.

However, can you imagine dining approximately 200 metres underwater in a submarine? Well, a Dutch company called U-Boat Worx is all set to make this unusual idea a reality soon. If the official website of U-Boat Worx is to be believed, the firm has developed a new submarine, or underwater vehicle, that has about 150 metres square or 1,600 square feet of floor space and can be used for multiple purposes, including dining about 64 guests by converting it into a restaurant. Besides, this vehicle can easily undertake a journey of up to 200 metres in the sea. It operates on a battery and can take a journey of up to 24 hours easily. Now picture 14 windows, luxury bathrooms and a floating dock. This innovative submarine vehicle can easily make your dinner date even more dreamy, isn’t it?

Furthermore, it can also become a deep-sea gym or casino with a stunning view surrounded by the ocean. Planning a unique party or a wedding? This ‘Under Water Entertainment Platform’, or UWEP, has the capacity to accommodate 120 guests for such events too.

"The UWEP will shake up both the submarine and hospitality industry and lead the way in bespoke underwater events. We will not only present a stellar experience for the most discerning clientele but also a business opportunity that will benefit entrepreneurs and contribute to our understanding of the oceans," said Bert Houtman, the Founder and CEO of U-Boat Worx.

Where to find this? Well, the Dutch company is still searching for the most suitable locations to launch this vehicle. But the sea lover, and sucker for unique dining experiences in us just can’t wait for it to launch. What about you? Let us know your thoughts on this innovative underwater vehicle.
