This Eid, Prepare Sweets Using An OTG

Eid-ul-Fitr, falling on the 30th of March, 2025, calls for a celebration. If you’re still getting the festive spread from the store next door, this is your sign to make the most of your OTG sitting in the corner to prepare homemade sweets. Whether you want to make the traditional Shahi Tukda or try a fusion dessert like Sheer Khurma Cake, the possibilities of utilising Usha’s multi-purpose OTG are endless.

Making processes like baking, toasting, grilling, and even air frying simpler, this Eid, why don’t you make some festive sweets at home and impress your family and friends? So, what are you waiting for? Here are some of the best Eid-special sweets that you can easily recreate in an OTG.

Baklava Rolls

Baklava is one of the most popular Middle Eastern desserts that is perfect for any Eid gathering. While it is traditionally made by layering phyllo dough, you can make individual baklava rolls in an OTG. All you need to do is knead the phyllo dough with flour, water, vinegar, and oil. Once smooth, add a thin layer of butter and roll small portions of the dough. Top each portion with chopped nuts and roll them. Finally, bake them in your Usha’s OTG, coat the rolls with syrup made with honey and a little sugar, and dig in.

Basbousa

Another Middle Eastern dessert you can make for Eid 2025 is Basbousa, also known as semolina cake. It can made by mixing suji with curd, sugar, butter, and baking powder. Once you get a smooth batter, you can bake it in the OTG at 180°C till the cake rises. Next, pour a freshly prepared sugar syrup (chashni) over Basbousa, garnish with almonds, slice it into pieces, and serve.

Sheer Khurma Cake

Sheer Khurma is a classic dessert that is typically served on Eid. To give the traditional dessert a twist and prepare it in Usha’s OTG, you can make a sheer kurma cake. If you want to make the dessert at home, start preparing a batter with all-purpose flour, butter, condensed milk, cardamom, saffron, and assorted nuts. Bake it at 180°C for about half an hour, and serve it with a side of rabri.

Shahi Tukda

As the name suggests, Shahi Tukda can add a royal touch to your Eid spread. While Shahi Tukda is traditionally deep-fried in oil, you can make a healthier version in Usha’s OTG. All you need to do is take a few pieces of bread, cut them into bite-sized triangles, and toast them in the OTG. In the meantime, you can prepare the rabri by heating milk, sugar, condensed milk, saffron, and assorted nuts. Once the bread pieces are crispy, pour the rabri, and enjoy your pipping hot Shai Tukda.

Chocolate And Coconut Barfi

If you thought Usha’s OTG could only be used to bake cakes and cookies, why don’t you make this mouth-melting chocolate and coconut barfi? To add a fusion sweet to your Eid spread, you can take some shredded coconut, mix it with condensed milk, and spread it in a greased pan. Then, melt some dark chocolate and add a generous amount on top of the coconut later. Set the OTG to 170°C and let it do its magic. In just a few minutes, once the chocolate firms up, you can take the pan out and relish the Eid-special dessert.
