Strange Dessert Alert: How To Make Vegan Avocado Chocolate Mousse

Avocados are basically magic. They work well in savoury and they work well in dessert and this is just one example. Avocados are full of nutritious goodness, and they also happen to have a mild flavour so are great even in desserts. Avocado is a great thickening agent, so it gives this mousse an excellent velvety and cranny texture without whisking tirelessly (as you would do with a traditional mousse).

The mousse also has great uses, you could smear it on your sandwich to make a healthy Nutella substitute or plop on a pie to enjoy as chocolate mousse pie. There’s so much to do with it and such few ingredients needed to make it happen. The recipe makes four servings, so enjoy at your next dinner party or consume as a lovely refreshing afternoon snack.

You’ll Need

  1. 1/2 cup Maple Syrup or Honey
  2. 1/4 cup  coconut cream (you can get yours from the top of a can of coconut milk)
  3. 1/2 cup Dairy-free Chocolate Chips
  4. 2/3 cup Cocoa Powder
  5. 1 tsp Vanilla Essence
  6. 1/4 tsp Salt
  7. 2 Medium Avocados

Instructions

  1. Melt the chocolate in a microwave in 30-second intervals. Avoid contact with water, it is the enemy of chocolate.
  2. Allow the chocolate to cool back to room temperature.
  3. Cut open your avocados, across the stem and remove the pit. Scoop out the flesh with a spoon and add to a bowl.
  4. Mash the flesh with a fork till it reaches a smooth consistency. Don’t do this step in advance, as avocados brown.
  5. In a food processor, add the coconut cream, melted chocolate, maple syrup, and blend.
  6. Sift the cocoa powder while adding to the blender and blend again with the essence and salt.
  7. Finally, add your avocado. And blend one last time.
  8. Pour into a serving dish and garnish with grated chocolate.
  9. You can store it in the fridge covered for up to a week.
