Today, we'd like to talk to you about French toast, a beloved breakfast food around the world. French toast is first mentioned in the Apicius, a collection of Latin recipes from the first century CE, where it is referred to as aliter dulcia, or simply "another sweet dish." "Break [slice] fine white bread, crust removed, into quite large pieces that soak in milk [and beaten eggs], fried in oil, top with honey and serve," the recipe instructs. Butter-pan-fried bread pieces that have been dunked in an egg-milk custard. What is there not to love? We've added a desi, masaledaar touch to the conventionally made with a little sugar and served with fruit and honey or maple syrup. Slices of bread are used to make French toast, which is then dipped in an egg-and-milk custard and fried in butter or oil. A little sugar is typically added to the custard mixture before it is cooked and served with honey, maple syrup, fresh fruit, or just powdered sugar as a garnish.

  • 1 onion
  • 1 tomato
  • 2-3 green chillies
  • Coriander
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 4 slices of bread

Method

  • Make the fresh masala topping first by finely cutting the tomatoes, onions, green peppers, and coriander. Leave this alone.
  • To prepare a custard, combine the eggs, milk, salt, and spices in a bowl. Put a nonstick skillet on medium-high heat right now. Melt some butter in the pan while it's heating up.
  • Slices of bread should be carefully dipped into the custard to avoid breaking. Slices should be pan-fried in a skillet over medium heat for 1 to 1.5 minutes on each side.
  • To keep them from becoming soggy as you cook the entire batch, place them on a wire rack.
  • Serve them with a large amount of chaat masala and the masala topping. Don't be afraid to add additional chaat masala.
