How to Choose a Knife for Cutting Desserts
Any dessert—including a cake—should be cut using the right tool. Most of the time, cakes and other desserts require a serrated knife. This serration allows for clean cuts through soft layers without squishing them and thus helps to maintain the structure and presentation of the dessert. When choosing a knife, ensure that it is sharp and its blade is of good length in order to fit many sizes of a given dessert. A cake server can also help by picking up each slice without breaking it.
Homemade Chocolate Cake Recipe
If you got inspired by Saif's celebration and want to surprise your near and dear ones with a homemade cake, then here is a very easy chocolate cake recipe:
Ingredients:
1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 cup sugar
½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 ½ tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
2 large eggs
1 cup milk
½ cup vegetable oil
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup boiling water
Method:
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease and flour two 9-inch round baking pans.
In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract. Beat on medium speed until smooth.
Gradually stir in boiling water. The batter will be thin, but this is normal.
Pour the batter into the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove and let cool on a wire rack until completely cool.
Frost with your favourite chocolate icing, if desired, and enjoy!
