The second half of the year is quite eventful, as one begins with several festivals in India - including Navratri, Dussehra, and Diwali. Then, during winter, one indulges again in the holiday spirit, as Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations begin. And finally, the year ends with the New Year’s Eve party.
While there are many food traditions in several cultures around new year, a fun-filled get-together is also very common across the globe. Those hosting a new year bash at their place this year, we know you are pretty occupied with all the planning. To take off the stress, we’ve curated a list of some sizzling veg starters that you can serve at your party and impress your guests.
From corn kebabs to potato cakes, make these yummy snacks at home this New Year’s Eve.
1. Rajma Kebabs
Give your regular kebabs a bean-y spin with the addition of rajma. Also known as kidney beans, rajma, when cooked properly gets all mushy and soft. Mashed and rounded with potatoes and chopped onions, the breadcrumbs hold the shape of the kebabs. Pair with mint-coriander chutney and onion rings.
2. Stuffed Cheesy Mushrooms
Take some white button mushrooms and hollow them out. In it, stuff a mixture of mushroom stalks and herbs. Add loads of grated cheese on top and bake it in an oven for a few minutes. You can use herbs like basil, along with some chopped onions and black pepper to flavour the mushrooms. This starter is all things cheesy, chunky, and juicy.
3. Paneer Pockets
Who’s up for a crispy fried snack at a party? We think everyone. These yummy and flaky pockets are stuffed with a filling of cottage cheese, mixed with chopped onions, bell peppers, tomatoes and a few spices. Tossed in a pan, the mixture is layered on a puff pastry sheet. Wrap it up into a pocket and deep-fry until golden-brown.
4. Potato Cakes
Mini potato-filled cakes spell sheer indulgence. These are made with boiled potatoes that are finely-diced and set together in a round stack. Add to this, some herbs, onions, and bread crumbs. The potato cakes are topped with grated parmesan cheese and baked until they turn light brown. These cakes are quite filling as an appetiser and easy-to-eat too.
5. Tortilla Pinwheels
Shaped like a pinwheel, the tortillas are filled with loads of mashed potatoes, corn kernels, coriander leaves, and cheese. The red chilli garlic paste adds a spicy touch to the pinwheel. Filled with grated cheese, the pinwheels are baked until the tortilla turns crunchy and crispy. These are then served with tomato ketchup and a spicy dip. These are a crowd-pleaser at any party.
