Since his spree of paying impromptu visits to public spaces, Rahul Gandhi has been working closely with the common citizens around the country to understand the issues they have been challenged with, at ground level. As part of his expanding list of visits, he was recently in the capital, where he made a surprise appearance at the bustling Azadpur Mandi, to meet with fruit and vegetable vendors. The former INC president, chose the early hours of Tuesday morning to converse with the vendors about the rising prices of food items.

With costs per kilo being as high as 100 or 200 INR, particularly tomatoes, which have made headlines recently, Rahul’s appearance happened two days after he returned from Kerala, where he underwent treatment for a childhood knee injury. Prior to his visit, he shared a video of a tearful vegetable vendor that was shot at the same market, to his Twitter. Rahul’s visit to the market was in response to the sorry plight of farmers and vendors who have been distraught about purchasing food items at wholesale rates.
