Quiz: This is how we casserole!

A casserole is a large pan or bowl cooked inside an oven. Casserole dishes are easy to prepare all-in-one pot meals. They are budget-friendly and often referred to as comfort foods. You can make them much ahead and freeze them or keep them warm after cooking. They are made by throwing your proteins, carbs, and veggies into one dish and cooking them.

In the United States, a casserole dish refers to baked meats, fish, chopped or canned vegetables, and a starchy binder like flour, potato, or pasta. The Lancashire hotpot is an example of a casserole dish in the UK. Some similar examples are cassoulet (French), moussaka (Greek), and timballo (Italian).

Taco casseroles are prepared with layers of tortillas laden with seasoned ground meat, some Mexican fixings, and lots of cheese. The beef bourguignon is a french casserole dish where beef is slow-cooked in red wine with small onions, button mushrooms, and bacon lardons. You can make the American cracker barrel hash brown casserole with just onions, pepper, cream of chicken soup, and butter.
