Turmeric is one of the widely consumed spices in India, thanks to its extensive usage in everyday cooking and medicinal properties. Thus, it is consumed on a large scale in different parts of India, especially Telangana. However, the fluctuating prices of turmeric produce are one of the major issues prevailing in the country. Due to a shortage of storage facilities, turmeric cultivating farmers can't afford to wait for an increase in price to sell their produce. But now, all their problems are about to end with the formation of the National Turmeric Broad.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was recent during his visit to Telangana. While fulfilling the much-awaited demands of the farmers, PM Modi announced for setting up National Turmeric Board in Telangana. The board will act as saviour for the turmeric-cultivating farmers in promoting, processing, marketing, and exporting their produce. It needs to be mentioned here that Nizamabad is one of the largest turmeric-producing districts in Telangana.
While addressing the gathering in Telangana’s Mahbubnagar, PM Modi said, “After Covid, awareness about turmeric has increased and global demand has also increased. Today it is important to pay more attention professionally and take an initiative in the value chain of turmeric, from production to export. Looking at the necessity of turmeric farmers and future opportunities, the center has decided to establish a National Turmeric Board," PM Modi said addressing a gathering in the state's Mahabubnagar.
