At the Jammu and Katra railway stations, there will soon be a new way to eat. As part of the Indian Railways' "Beautiful Restaurants on Wheels" programme, old train cars are being fixed up and turned into theme-based restaurants. These restaurants add a nostalgic touch to railway stations. This creative project is both a tribute to the long history of train travel and a creative food adventure. It's worth noting that similar restaurants have already graced nine to 10 major railway stations across India. The project is an exciting mix of tradition and modernity that will give travellers and food lovers a new way to eat.
According to reports, there are currently two rail-coach restaurants being developed in the cities of Jammu and Katra. The combined annual revenue generated by the two air-conditioned restaurants will amount to ₹50 lakh. Each restaurant will be established over an area of 1,600 square feet. The official further stated that tenders have been awarded to two distinct entities. As part of this initiative, we are extending the opportunity to private entities to transform these coaches into cutting-edge restaurants, allowing them to exercise creative freedom in their design choices.
Each of these redesigned coaches is intended to carry a name that reflects India's rich cultural and spiritual heritage. The two restaurants will be named 'Annapurna' and 'Maa Durga,' taking inspiration from esteemed deities and Indian cultural customs. The careful selection of these names imparts a sense of spirituality and symbolism to the dining experience, thereby enhancing the depth and meaning of the culinary journey that awaits our esteemed guests.
The process of converting a coach into a fully functional restaurant is estimated to require a period of 90 days and is expected to open its doors by December. According to Pradeep Gupta, the owner of Annapurna Restaurant, the establishment will be furnished with all essential amenities, as told to PTI. Further, he added that both restaurants located at Jammu and Katra railway stations will offer a selection of non-vegetarian dishes and will provide a fully air-conditioned dining experience.
