Here are three major drawbacks of a strict diet to explain why you should strive to achieve these goals safely.

1. Affects metabolism

Metabolism is the process in which your body converts food into energy. By eating more, the metabolism will only increase for a few hours. While eating less will slow down the metabolism.

Weight loss starts due to calorie restriction; hence a typical diet involves reducing your calorie intake. Weight loss is more due to the consumption of high protein foods, protein foods help in increasing metabolism. This indicates that a person's metabolism has decreased to match the number of calories consumed.

2. Causes depression

Dieting can also lead to depression because certain amounts of nutrients are needed to keep your mental state stable. Carbohydrate and sugar deficiency can also indirectly affect serotonin levels.

People who stop consuming sugar while dieting may even experience symptoms of anxiety, muscle aches and nausea. All of these symptoms often cause painful physical reactions and depression.

3. Causes weight gain

You start dieting to lose weight. However, you may end up putting on a few extra pounds. Especially when you starve yourself, your body transforms all foods into fat.

When you starve, your body first uses up the stored carbohydrate and protein and lastly fats. Having a heavy meal after large gaps can convert carbs and protein to fat.

NOTE: NOT ALL FOOD IS CONVERTED TO FAT. ONLY WHEN CARBS STORES GET FULL THEN CONVERSION TAKES PLACE.

Due to starvation or lack of nutrients and energy available in the body, our body enters into conservation mode. Where the body whenever fed with some nutrients it thinks that the nutrient should be conserved for further energy requirement and thereby lead to fat deposition i.e., weight gain.

Our bodies require all necessary nutrients, hence choose a balanced diet plan where you don’t miss out on any such nutrients.
