Not Just A Dip: 5 Ways You Can Use Up Mustard In Your Kitchen

With the ability to spark up a gloomy day with just one tablespoon of cheery yellow, mustard is a delightful combination of acid, spice and salt. The condiment which brightens up even the most boring dishes, mustard is the go-to secret ingredient for every home cook. With a variety of Dijon, classic, honey and grainy, mustard is a perfect condiment for every savoury dish. However, mustard deserves more than just being a spread on your toasts and a dip for your chips and fried goodies. So, we have curated a list of five ways you can use mustard in your kitchen.

1. Roasts

Planning to have a barbeque day? Marinate your pork chops and turkey breasts with herby mustard and roast them on the barbeque the next day. The divine combination of smoke, moreish mustard and fragrant herbs will fill your palette with varied flavours.

2. Vinaigrette

The combination of mustard and tender greens is heavenly. However, mustard goes well with roasted root veggies like turnips too. Whip up some honey, Dijon mustard, minced garlic, black pepper, salt, white vinegar, olive oil and some drops of hot sauce to make a funky vinaigrette.

3. Pan sauce

Jazz up your favourite pan-seared goodies by adding a splash of red wine and a tablespoon of mustard into it to pack in flavours. Stir everything well for a minute or so and your brown goodness with bright flavours is ready to be relished.

4. Glaze

Make a mustard brown sugar glaze for baked dishes like chicken breasts or tenders. Brush your baked dishes with some mustard glaze in the last half hour of baking.

5. Potato Gratin

Your classic French potato Gratin can be amped up to another level with the addition of Dijon mustard. Add dollops of Dijon mustard, cheddar cheese and sliced onions to your au gratin potatoes to pack in flavour.

Use up your languishing mustard kept in the corner cabinet in the aforementioned ways to have a bright, cheery and flavourful meal. You can also use mustard as a pasta sauce or use it in your deviled eggs.
