Masterchef Australia's Kishwar Chowdhury Savours Puliyogare In Mylapore

As a chef who travels the world to collaborate with creative minds in different kitchens, Kishwar Chowdhury’s recent post on social media was a heart-warming expression of her spiritual beliefs. Combining faith with food, the acclaimed chef from Masterchef Australia’s 13th run, was on a trip to India – where she visited the iconic Kapaleeshwarar Shiva Temple in Mylapore. Located in Chennai, the temple is known for serving up some of the most delicious prasad to hundreds of devotees each day – with a different type of rice delicacy prepared for offering and distribution.

Kishwar, who paid a visit to the temple dressed in traditional attire, embraced the South Indian culture of adorning her hair with flowers and relishing a small portion of tamarind rice or puliyogare. Sharing videos and photos holding a recycled leaf cup containing the delicacy tempered with curry leaves, red chillies and mustard seeds, the chef also spent time admiring the many stalls that dot the perimeter wall of the temple. Sharing photographs of vendors who had fresh flowers, betel leaves, small bananas and other trinkets on display, her visit to the temple seemed like a fulfilling one.

The chef, who also spent time touring Kolkata and sampling food at ‘pice hotels’ earlier in June this year, enjoyed a non-vegetarian spread of various Bengali delicacies made with mutton and seafood. She relished the curries with a mound of rice served on a banana leaf, alongside a wedge of Gondhoraj lebu, aloo bhaja, a deep-fried fritter and pinch of salt.
