If you are someone who mostly stays busy or is stuck with work all the time, we are sure that eating out or ordering in is your saviour. While it may seem easy to quickly order something and satisfy your hunger, it might not be healthy in the long run, isn’t that true? We all get homesick or crave homemade comfort food after days of eating out, don’t we? And when that happens, we always resort to our most beloved and wholesome dishes. It seems like Malaika knows the worth of comfort food better than anyone. A self-confessed foodie, the Bollywood diva never misses a chance to indulge in wholesome, delicious treats every now and then, and her regular Instagram stories and posts are proof of that.
Remember, we told you about her South Indian indulgence a few days back? Thanks to her south Indian roots from her maternal side, we keep on getting snippets of her gorging on Kerala Sadhya-style meals or comforting curd rice. Now, in her latest Instagram story, Malaika is once again seen noshing on a lunch meal full of comforting foods. Khichdi, papad and chilli pickle, these three yummy treats found their way to Malaika’s platter for lunch, and we are already craving. She took to Instagram to share a picture of her plate full of her comfort feast. Take a look:

Looks yummy, doesn’t it? “Heal meal..khichdi, papad n chilli pickle”, Malaika wrote as a picture for the picture. She tagged her friend and makeup artist Mallika Bhat, perhaps, thanking her for the meal. For those unversed, khichdi is a soothing medley of rice, lentils, ghee and some desi spices. Simple, satisfying and scrumptious, a hearty bowl of khichdi speaks volumes about both health and taste. It is a one-pot meal that is known to be one of the most popular wholesome meals, with nourishing powers for recuperation amid sickness. Perhaps, Malaika knows all about it as she tagged it as a ‘heal meal!’.
And while rice, lentil and spices with ghee are the staple ingredients of khichdi, one can spruce it up with as many spices, herbs and veggies to your heart’s content. A lot of people add crunchy peas, carrots, beans and even potatoes to make it even more nutritious, while some add tadka of spices. If nothing else, you can experiment with the dal that you use - from moong dal and arhar dal to oats and sprouts – one can make khichdi using every ingredient possible. People have also started to make it with quinoa too. If khichdi isn’t versatile, we don’t know what is!
Malaika sure knows how to amp up her bowl of khichdi with- the crunchy papad and mirch ka achaar is simply the most amazing combination ever. Craving a bowl of khichdi already?
