Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon active dry yeast
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup warm water
1/4 cup plain yogurt
2 tablespoons vegetable oil or melted butter
Additional flour for dusting
Melted butter or ghee for brushing (optional)
Garlic, chopped cilantro, or other seasonings (optional)
Method:
- Combine warm water, sugar, and yeast in a bowl and let it sit for 5-10 minutes.
- Mix flour and salt in a bigger bowl and add the yeast mixture, yoghurt, and vegetable oil. Form a soft and manageable dough which is not too dry or wet.
- Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes until it becomes stretchy.
- Cover it with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise for 1-2 hours.
- After the dough rises, punch it and divide it into 6-8 balls.
- Heat the griddle or skillet that you're using to make the naan.
- Roll each ball into an oval-shaped disk with 1/4 inch thickness. You don't have to be stressed about deforming shape.
- Put the disc onto the griddle and let it go for 1-2 minutes until bubbles form.
- Cook evenly from both sides. Brush melted butter along with cilantro and chopped Garlic.
- Your naan is ready!
