Looking For A Humble Namkeen? Try Making Poha Chivda At Home

Indians love their tea-time snacks and namkeen is one of them. They just cannot trade their desi namkeen with anything else, and this is because of so many reasons. From aloo bhujiya to moong dal, these namkeens give a homely feeling and give a sense of calm. Whenever there is chai, namkeen has to be there. It just elevates the taste of our chai and helps in having a good time in the evening.

Among so many loved namkeens, one is humble poha chivda which tastes amazing. When one gets a bowl of this roasted chivda namkeen, he or she would not leave the bowl until it’s empty. And why not, this namkeen is too delicious. This savory snack which has a blend of sweet, tangy, and crunchy flavours, has so many ingredients like cashews, peanuts, almonds, and many others. It is loved just not because of its simplicity but its rich taste. Just in case you are wondering how to make it, we have sorted this out for you. Ingredients

  • 250 gm thin poha
  • 4 tbsp oil
  • ½ cup roasted chana dal
  • ½ cup peanuts
  • ¼ cup cashew
  • ¼ cup almonds
  • 4 tbsp coconut slices (dried)
  • 1 tbsp cumin seeds
  • 2 green chilies (chopped)
  • 10 to 12 curry leaves
  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • Salt as per taste

Ingredients

  • Heat a pan and add thin poha.
  • Roast the poha while stirring continuously. Make sure the poha doesn’t break.
  • Roast for 5 to 6 minutes or until it becomes crispy.
  • When done, remove it from the flame and keep it aside to cool down.
  • Heat another pan and add oil.
  • Add peanuts and roast them. Keep stirring.
  • When peanuts start to pop, reduce the flame and roast them for 2 more minutes.
  • Then, add roasted chana dal and roast them for 1 to 2 minutes.
  • Thereafter, add cashew, almonds, and dried coconut.
  • Roast everything together until it turns brown and aromatic.
  • Then, add cumin seeds, green chili, and curry leaves. (Make sure the green chilies and curry leaves don’t have any moisture).
  • Now, add turmeric powder, salt, and sugar.
  • Mix well and turn off the flame.
  • Now add roasted poha into the mixture and give everything a good mix.
  • When done, store in an airtight container and serve with a hot cup of adrak wali chai.
