Your favourite spirits, alcohol and cocktails might burn a bigger hole in your pocket starting November. The rise in cost of liquor in hotels, bars, lounges and clubs all over Maharashtra will be due to a 5 per cent increase in the Value Added Tax (VAT) announced by the state government. This will make all alcohol-based drinks more expensive in your favourite lounges and bars.
In the wake of this decision by the Maharashtra government, drinking out will become expensive for everyone. The VAT rate for permit room liquor services is doubled to 10 per cent, as reported by Mint. Over the counter prices of alcohol will however remain the same. This move might encourage people to drink at home or buy alcohol and consume it in public spaces. The repercussions and ripple effects of the decision is yet to be determined.
While drinking out in Maharashtra is definitely getting more expensive, you can always resort to stocking up your home bar and try out liquors and cocktails of your choice at home. Here are 5 cocktails that is super simple to make. Try these out and feel like a mixologist already!
