The monsoon season is often met with high enthusiasm, thanks to the relief it brings from the scorching summer season that India goes through. However, one must never forget the harmful exposure that the season brings with it. According to various health experts, the monsoon season exposes us to several water-borne diseases like diarrhoea, hepatitis, typhoid, cholera and baleful infections as dengue and malaria. However, to reduce the risk of contracting these infections, it is essential to adopt the necessary measures to boost immunity while sailing through the seasonal transition.
Dr Suresh Sisodia (Senior Vice President, Havells India Ltd) shares three tips to take care of your health during the rainy season
Physical activity should be your best friend
Maintain a regular physical activity regime at home if access to the gym is unmanageable due to the rains or the ongoing pandemic. It is not essential to invest in heavy gym equipment to keep a healthy exercise routine. Still, it is necessary to maintain an exercise routine enough to increase the heart rate and provide extra strength. There are various workout exercises such as push-ups, squats, and lunges that can be done at home to improve muscular strength. Even Yoga is an excellent choice as it is known to reduce respiratory problems. Moreover, regularly exercising one’s muscles and joints will ensure that the bones remain lubricated and robust. Last but not least, exercise also boosts immunity, which helps your body recover faster.
Boosting your immunity is the key
It is apparent to incorporate nutritional food in your daily diet, which boosts overall immunity amidst a pandemic and rainy season. Some of these foods include hot soups, probiotics, broccoli, green leafy vegetables, turmeric, garlic, ginger, citrus fruits, etc. Therefore, home-cooked meals are a must in a COVID situation, but it is also highly recommended throughout the monsoon season. At the same time, fruits and vegetables should be fresh and washed with purified water before cooking. Furthermore, alkaline water is well-known to have numerous immunity-boosting and antioxidant properties. Thus, it is highly beneficial to overall health.
Keep excellent personal hygiene
As we are battling a pandemic, the most crucial factor is to be able to maintain proper self-hygiene. The monsoon season makes it vital to take personal hygiene seriously. It is essential to wear clean and dry clothes and footwear as wet, damp clothes and footwear can become a breeding ground for microbes. After using the restroom, wash hands properly before and after eating, cleaning, sneezing, coughing, petting, etc. It should be avoided to walk in muddy water on the streets and if that does happen, washing feet is a must.
