Kareena Kapoor who is recently Kalimpong for the shoot of Sujoy Ghosh untitled murder mystery that is based on Keigo Higashino’s bestselling murder novel, The Devotion of Suspect X was seen hogging some Tiramisu.
Kareena took to Instagram and posted a story approving that she has travelled the world only to find the best tiramisu in Kalimpong. Yes, you read it right. She wrote on her story ““Travelled the world only to find the best tiramisu in Kalimpong (heart eye emojis)”.
But do you know how did this sinful even came into existence. Tiramisù literally means “pick me up”. The words come from Treviso dialect, “Tireme su”, that was Italianised into Tiramisù in the latter half of the 20th century. Historical records say that this dessert originated in Treviso in 1800 by a mistress who ran a house of pleasure. This slowly developed this aphrodisiac dessert for the customers. And hence the Tiremesù, a natural Viagra was born and was served in brothels. Slowly this dessert found its way in the modern-day Le Beccherie restaurant. Till date this restaurant makes the dessert with the classical recipe. There are many version of Tiramisu that happens to be a slice of cake that is layered with mascarpone, sponge cake, savoiardi (Lotus biscoff in today’s time), with some espresso drizzled and dusted with cocoa powder.
The original recipe supposedly is known to have egg yolks and sugar combined together, along with some mascarpone and a drop of Marsala wine, giving us the classic tiramisu cream, later topped with some broken up by biscuits that has been soaked in coffee to create the finished dessert. This king of Italian dessert is both tasty and delicious.
The dessert first appeared in print in 1981 issue of Veneto, a local publication dedicated to food and wine. It was also recently that Campeol the owner of Le Beccherie restaurant who is also known as the dubbed "the father of Tiramisu" passed away last year at the age of 93.
Here’s a Tiramisu By Chef Shipra Khanna
Ingredients
• Vanilla sponge cake 1
• Instant coffee powder 2 tbsps + to sprinkle
• Whipped cream 1 cup
• Philadelphia cheese ½ cup
• Sweet condensed milk 200 gms
• Chocolate curls to garnish
Method-
• Mix coffee powder in ½ cup water.
• Take whipped cream in a mixing bowl, add Philadelphia cheese and condensed milk and whisk them properly.
• Add 2 tbsps coffee mixture and mix well.
• Cut out roundels of the sponge cake with a round cookie cutter.
• Put a cake roundel in each of 4 shot glasses.
• Sprinkle some coffee mixture over them. Spread a layer of cream mixture.
• Repeat these layers once.
• Sprinkle coffee powder, decorate with chocolate curls and chill in the refrigerator before serving.
