Popular Kalimpong joint The Art Cafe just unveiled its second venture in the City of Joy. The cafe which opened up its first Kolkata outlet in Lake Market last year just announced that it has added a new location, named Cafe Mueller, which is located at the Goethe-Institut at Max Mueller Bhavan in Park Mansions property in the Park Street area.
The heritage institute’s new premises opened its doors in the heart of the city, at Park Mansions in 2018. Park Mansions is a historic landmark built in 1908 and was endowed with the “Heritage Award” in 2014. In Kalimpong, Art Cafe opened its doors in 2015 and soon found popularity for its perfect brews and live music.
Iftekhar Ahsan, of Calcutta Walks fame, and his wife Shaheera Bano collaborated with the Art Cafe founders, Pravesh Chhetri and Yachna Rizal, to bring the popular cafe to Kolkata. Their Lake Market venue, instantly recognisable by a big vintage door is a cosy 30-seater cafe with some striking accents and also offers a selection of organic produce from Kalimpong Organic Haat.
The cafe’s jhol momos and thukpas have already impressed Kolkatans and while Cafe Mueller will offer Art Cafe’s famous signatures, you can also expect a selection of great desserts, fun breakfast options like buckwheat crepes and fing salads and their popular flourless cakes. The best part? Their cheese is sourced directly from Kalimpong! Also, don’t miss out on their apple crumble and their signature German bakery Sachertorte!
