The reasons for the rise of these alternatives range from the health implications of consuming processed meat, to taking a stand against animal cruelty, to ameliorating environmental hazards. Living in a world where climate change is an urgent and severe reality, the push towards mock meats is both right and apt.
But not to miss the fact that India household has always been a great example. from Chickpeas to jackfruit to soya and more all have been playing the role of mock meat since long and when we want to binge or eat carefree we can even go the mock meat way. These meatless burgers are absolutely juicy, nicely packed with protein and the patty tucked in between burger buns can be real delight. Most importantly, they are delicious.
Here's one such recipe by Izzat Hussain who is not just a chef but also an Unani physician. Hussain is known for his Mughlai, Awadhi and Lucknowi cuisine.
Chickpeas Burger petti or Vegetarian Shami Kabab.
Ingredients :
- 200. Grams boiled chic peas.
- 200grams boiled potatoes.
- Cran berry to infuse inside.
- Salt to taste
- Black pepper powder 1/2 tea spoon
- Cumin powder 1/2 tea spoon
- Chat Masala 1/2 tea spoon.
- Corn flour for dusting.
- Oil to fry .
Method
- *Take pre grounded chick peas and potatoes in mixing bowl mix well together.
- *Keep in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
- *Now add black pepper and cumin powder along with chat masala.
- *Make small bowl of this dough ,
- *Infuse some cran berry inside and make a flat petti.
- *Dust with corn flour.
- * Deep Fry in medium fire and serve with your desired dip or sous.
