Cheese Fondue is a dish that originates from Swiss, French and Italian cultures but over the years has become so popular that some countries even celebrate a National Cheese Fondue Day.

A pot of cheese fondue is great for dinner parties, and you can prepare it a couple of hours in advance and reheat it when your guests arrive. Now typically you would need a special fondue pot with a tea candle underneath it but if you don’t have that on hand, a regular bowl will do the trick.

The recipe calls for Gruyère cheese which is a great melting cheese so if you can find that at a local store use it otherwise swap it for another cheese of your choice.

You’ll Need

1 garlic clove

450g  Gruyère cheese

230g Swiss cheese

1 cup of dry white wine

1 tablespoon of cornstarch

1 teaspoon of fresh lemon juice

1/2 tsp of Pepper

1/2 tsp of Nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Take the garlic clove and rub it in the inside of your fondue pot.
  2. Grate the cheeses and set them aside.
  3. Bring the pot onto the flame, and add the cheeses and wine.
  4. Then follow up by mixing in the cornstarch, lemon juice and stir thoroughly.
  5. When the cheese starts to melt continue whisking.
  6. Taste test and add in your spices and if needed salt.
  7. Bring off the heat and let it cool down a little.

What To Dip In Your Cheese?

  1. Bread is the absolute quintessential. If you want you can toast it to make it extra crispy instead of chewy.
  2. Cherry tomatoes are wonderful and when bitten into release their gooey-ness.
  3. cubed boiled potatoes also work great dipped into the cheese.
  4. If you like, you can enjoy the fondue with some pre-cooked sausage.
  5. Broccoli is your dipping style if you want to feel a little healthier.
