Constant breakout of acne is painful. It not only affects your looks but also your confidence. At least 10 per cent of the total world population have experienced acne situations at some point in their lives.

Acne is a common skin condition that is characterized by blackheads, pimples, and whiteheads. It occurs when your skin pores get clogged with lead skin cells and oil. You must have noticed that teens develop acne on their face, neck, back, and shoulders when going through puberty. It happens because a person goes through enormous hormonal changes during this stage of life that trigger their body’s oil glands to produce too much oil. There are various other causes behind the onset of acne. And, one of them is your diet. Its quality has a major role to play in acne development. Thinking how? Read on.

Role of Diet in Causing Acne

Well, when you eat foods rich in sugar, it raises your blood glucose levels and that leads to the release of insulin hormone. Having too many sugar-containing foods will cause excessive insulin secretion and that can further lead to more oil production by your oil glands, eventually increasing your risk of getting acne. Moreover, foods packed with trans fats, high-glycemic carbohydrates, saturated fats, and a diet rich in dairy products stimulate the production of hormones that cause excessive oil secretion, says a study published in the Journal of Clinical, Cosmetic and Investigational Dermatology.

Acne-Causing Foods

Refined grains, fast foods like burgers, hot dogs, French fries, sodas, etc., chocolate, and whey protein powder are a few food items that should not be on your priority list if you wish to bid adieu to your acne problem. Apart from these, eatables containing a large amount of omega-6 fatty acids can cause inflammation and acne. Most western diets contain this fatty acid in enormous amounts. An imbalance of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids can take your body into an inflammatory state and this can make your acne severe.

So, pick wisely and eat healthily!
