Indians Are Crushing Over Food: Top Foods That Feature In Dating Bios

Food is an emotion wherein we have associated different food items with specific moods like happiness, sadness, boredom etc. It soothes, and it satiates. A common thread that binds India together is its love and passion for food. For generations, India has witnessed how people bond over a conversation across the dining table in marriages, celebrations or other social gatherings. Millenials and GenZ too are following this trend in their own way by extending their love for food in their dating bios.

The emerging trend of mentioning food in the dating bios can also help break the ice with their crush. Indians bond more with each other when they realise their common interest of enjoying gastronomic delicacies. Moreover, there is an age-old Indian saying; that food is the way to reach someone’s heart.

Especially during the lockdown, when there was a surge in online dating, people started mentioning their favourite restaurants and cafes in their bios. They look forward to sharing a meal with their crushes in those places. These food preferences and restaurants stems from the notion of how food brings people and culture together.

From Coffee, Ramen to Dosa: Indian Dating Sites Are Full Of Foodies

Happn, a popular dating website carried out a short survey on the top food items that the individuals enjoy. Based on those findings, a cup of coffee topped the list. Enjoying a cup of coffee on the first date has always been a classic. Moreover, there is a sense of bonding associated with it, wherein people tend to have a heart-to-heart conversation sitting in a café over a steaming cup of coffee.

Following coffee was the favourite drink of India-Chai! While the whole world loves the Indian milk-based Chai, it has a special place in the heart of lovers.

Apart from this, Pizza, Chocolate, Maggi, Sushi and Dosa are the favourites in the dating bios.

While it is unique to understand the significance of food in the dating bios, the notion of food and romance clubbed together has quite been there. On the other hand, letting your partner decide on the meal for a Netflix watch party is also considered a romantic gesture in Gen Z.

Further research made by happn on the subject found that 55% of users enjoyed cooking and had some delicious recipes in their food kitty. And surprisingly, both men and women have added their love for cooking in their bios. Highlighting how you have a favourite dish and are ready to cook it for the right person does speak how committed you are to the process of online dating.
