Green Peas Idli An Easy Recipe Celebrating This Winter Vegetable

World Idli Day 2022: Whenever I feel like eating something light, the first thing that comes to mind is the idli. Whether eaten with sambar or chutney, it tastes delicious and is certainly a dish for all. You, too, must have eaten this simple yet delicious dish, a breakfast staple in South India. But today’s a special occasion. It’s ‘World Idli Day’. So, we will give you a healthy and tasty idli recipe made using green peas. You can enjoy this idli as a snack and even pack this for your kid’s lunch.

Ingredients:

  1. Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
  2. Green peas - 1 cup
  3. Salt - as per taste
  4. Green chillies - 3-4
  5. Urad dal - 1-2 tsp
  6. Curry leaves - 5-8
  7. Semolina - 1 cup
  8. Ginger - 1 inch
  9. Curd - 1 cup
  10. Oil - 1 tbsp

Method:

  1. Mix curd in semolina, prepare a paste and keep the batter covered for a while.
  2. Peel the peas, separate the grains and wash them well. 
  3. Grind onion, green chillies and ginger in a mixer. If possible, prepare a fine paste without adding water to it.
  4. Add green peas to the mixer and make a fine paste. 
  5. Put a pan in the gas and add oil. 
  6. Add urad dal, curry leaves and mustard seeds when the oil becomes slightly hot.
  7. Check the semolina batter after 10 minutes, add the tempering prepared with salt, and mix it well again. If required, add some water or curd to it.
  8. Add green peas, onion, and ginger paste to the prepared batter and mix well.
  9. Grease the idli mould with oil or ghee and pour the batter into the greased mould. Place the mould in a preheated idli stand and cook for 10-12 minutes.
  10. After about 15 minutes, put a clean knife into the idli and if it comes out the same, take it out from the mould.
  11. Take out all the idlis and serve with green chutney or coconut chutney.
