"To eat is a necessity, but to eat intelligently is an art." - François de la Rochefoucauld. The importance of proper nutrition is unquestionable; it plays a key role, both in staying healthy and recovering from a disease. Monika Manchanda, Chief Culinary Officer & Co-founder of LiveAltLife, says, "unfortunately, in recent times, the very core aspects of nutrition seem to have taken a beating in our fast-paced lives - where proper ‘sit-down’ meals with family are now a privilege. This lifestyle has put a significant portion of the global population in a whirlpool of chronic lifestyle illnesses – such as diabetes and hypertension, that are grabbing top positions on the leader board!"
What is the root cause behind these diseases?
Interestingly, the root cause of both these diseases is the same – improper diet pattern and frequency. Diabetes is established as a problem of ‘more sugar’. Still, fewer people are aware that hypertension is an outcome of excess sugar, impairing the electrolyte balance of sodium and potassium in the body. Hence, it is imperative to have an effective nutrition plan to win a battle over these diseases.
How to manage these diseases? Explains Chief Culinary Officer
Cutting back on processed, pre-packaged, and carb-rich food like pasta, rice, cakes, etc., marks the first step towards managing these diseases. The next step is to address the undisciplined meal timings, such as frequent snacking, which keeps the blood sugar levels high, damaging the body. Next, keep your feeding window short, 10-12 hours a day, and only drink plain water beyond this window. This provides your body with essential time to heal all by itself and manage excess blood sugar. Finally, stack the pantry with a variety of fruits, vegetables, leafy greens, nuts, seeds, a healthy plant-based protein, along with lean meats and healthy fats.
Adopting such a nutrition plan rejuvenates your cells and keeps them happy, in turn, keeping you energized, immune, and disease-free!
