Mumbai has very few open spaces left and eateries with large premises overlooking a gorgeous spot are rare to find. The Gallops Restaurant in Mumbai has been one such example. The iconic eatery in Mumbai’s Mahalaxmi Racecourse is known for its colonial-era charm, lush greenery, and elegant interiors, offering a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of Mumbai. The restaurant’s design has always reflected a blend of old-world grandeur and modern luxury, making it a favourite spot for locals and tourists alike.

What Makes Gallops Special

The iconic restaurant recently got a makeover. “I believe Gallops has stood as the testament of time for over 38 years.  Our continuous commitment to quality and innovation in the menu has primarily been the key to our enduring success, along with our unique blend of colonial charm and contemporary comfort,” says Mikhail Singh, Partner at Gallops.

After 26 years the same architect Vistasp Kharas who had designed the original space has now reimagined a completely new look that manages to preserve the timeless appeal of this charming eatery while introducing sophisticated updates that enhance the dining experience.

“We thought it was time to give Gallops a new  perspective and mainly to evolve with the times. This revamp allows us to enhance the guest experience by offering something unique, a beautiful blend of the modern and traditional, and include all things we did not get to add the first time around. We will definitely stay true to the rich history that has made Gallops a beloved destination, however we want to try and offer an exciting yet rooted and familiar experience to our guests. I feel with this revamp Gallops will reaffirm its status as a culinary icon,” Jasmine Singh, Partner at Gallops, tells Slurrp.

In the new version walnut flooring replaces the old parquet ones. One can spot  custom-made candlelight chandeliers and wall sconces, which cast a warm, inviting glow throughout the restaurant. The meticulously restored wooden trusses add to the restaurant’s vintage charm. One of the cutest things at the newly redesigned Gallops is the equestrian-themed memorabilia wall, which displays saddle leather and stirrups, linking the restaurant to its rich heritage. The bar area, a recent addition, also has carefully curated equestrian memorabilia from the 1900s.
