India is hosting the 18th G20 summit at newly built Bharat Mandapan Convention Centre situated in National Capital’s Pragati Maidan area. World leaders and delegates including US President Joe Biden, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his wife Akshata Murthy, Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and Canada's PM Justin Trudeau to name a few arrived in New Delhi on September 8 to attend the landmark event that has kept the entire world hooked.
Given that the UN has declared the year 2023 to be the year of the International Year of Millets, the menu curated for the guests will have millets taking the center stage. Major hotels in the National Capital Region have left no stone turned to curate elaborate menus or delegate lunches and dinners to be held across multiple locations like The Taj Mahal Hotel New Delhi, The Lalit New Delhi, Le Meridien New Delhi and Eros Hotel New Delhi. Day 1 of the G20 summit 2023 is going on at full swing. So, let us know about the glorious Indian cuisine to be served to the World leaders and delegates.
As per a report published by India Today, one of the elaborate meals served to the guests started with a bunch of salads, ranging from classic South Indian Sundal along with a tossed Indian green. The foreign delegates were also served pasta salad and it seemed to be a safe space. Besides, roasted almond soup and vegetable broth were also served to the guests among several other dishes. The menu also consisted of Potato Lyonnaise I.e., a French potato and onion dish along with penne arabiatta, Indian paneer lababdar and subz korma.
A full-course millet-based feast prepared by celebrity chefs Ajay Chopra, Kunal Kapur, and Anahita Dhondy, along with Chef Kusha Mathur and Chef Nikita Mehra from the ITC group. The chefs have clearly done ample research on trending Indian ingredients and ensured makhana is out there. Delegates were also served kaju matar makhana and other dishes paired with jeera pulao, rotis and dal tadka. If some sources are to be believed, more millet-based fusion dishes, regional dishes and Indian street food will be a part of a massive feast to be served to the guests.
As per reliable sources, President Draupadi Murmu will be hosting a grand dinner after the end of the first day of talks for all the foreign delegates and state heads arrived at G20 Summit 2023. Even though Indian government is focusing on millets, it's not just millet but a variety of dishes that have been specially curated for this event.
